Reading Buddies is a supplemental reading program that provides the opportunity for a Gr. 8 student to partner up with a Gr. 11/12 student and read aloud twice a week during house block. By partaking in the program, students will have a unique chance to build upon the skills covered in English Language Arts classes, strengthen their reading fluency, comprehension, oral expression, vocabulary development, and enhance general reading strategies. Our Celtic Reading Buddies Program ultimately aims to foster a love of reading and learning, and assist with cross-curricular success. Reading Buddies sessions take place every Day 2 during house block, except for Wednesdays. This year, our program will be beginning on Tuesday, October 18th, at 8:25am, and the program will run through to June 2023. Grade 11/12 students can sign up for Reading Buddies as course credit and will be trained in guided reading and peer mentorship throughout the year. Literacy is one of the most important skills one can have to achieve success in life. Our goal in this peer-reading program is to help students become proficient, motivated, and confident readers.
